Have you made your New Year's resolutions for 2023?

Updated: Jan 12, 2023

It's January! Have you made your New Year's resolutions for 2023?

Whether you have already made your list or not, this is something you may want to consider... It might not be a bad idea to start the year with a list of ways you can make it better such as what you want to accomplish, things you want to do, or places you want to go. It can set the tone for the next 90 days, and even be the reason you are happier and thriving. However, research shows most resolutions fail by mid-March and are never revisited again. As life gets in the way, our resolutions are placed at the bottom of our priority list until we revisit them in late October or November, just before a new year begins once again. By then we are either stressed, disappointed or unfulfilled in our quest to check off the items on our resolutions list. This cycle may be the reason why the 3 months at end the year, and the beginning of a new one, may not be filled with better days. That is until I realized life happens for me, and not to me. I like to think of the yellow and red lights in this journey called life as a reminder to live! When obstacles force us to slow down or even stop us in our tracks, our minds briefly change how we perceive life - from 'I want to do', to 'I want to be'. This is because a task list is motivated by action, whereas a moment of pause, triggered by our inability to act in this instance, encourages self-reflection and increased awareness. So how do we work with this? Rather than make a TO-DO list, why not make a TO-BE list? This may read more like this In 2023 I want to be... 1. Patient with myself because I know good things take time - and I am good at getting things done. 2. Kinder to myself because when I take care of me, I am taking care of my whole world! This means the people I love (myself included), my work/ passion, the relationships I value... and so on 3. More appreciative with my words, thoughts and actions. I want to move with gratitude, act from a place of love, and grow for my own healing. Whatever you decide, I do hope you are kind to yourself because we all know the world could use a little more kind.
