I don't know who needs to hear or read this but life isn't happening to you, it's happening for you.
That river you must cross, the mountain that stands before you, and even the storm that surrounds you... they can all be tools for your evolution if you allow them to transform you. Some of you may read this and think, "easier said than done" or "you have no idea what I am going through", and you would be right.
Growing through moments of weakness, sadness, heart ache, disappointment and anger is easier than going through it. When we do the latter, we confirm to thoughts of why is this happening to me? Or why can't I catch a break? We make home with our obsession over these thoughts, unable to move past them because we feel victimized by our situation.
Growth begins when we make the conscious decision to employ our mental resources to seeking how what we are experiencing is happening for us.
In the first part of I do not know who needs to hear this, I shared my secret to creating my own positive energy and maintaining a positive attitude despite the energy in the room. It takes creativity, practice and work. When we act against the natural bias to be negative, we can strengthen the ability to master a positive response to life's challenges.
A challenge arises to teach us a lesson about something we must do or implement to prevent that particular challenge from recurring.
It can facilitate our personal growth in many ways. For instance, when I felt like everything was going wrong, I entertained the idea that it might be right for my growth. I tried this with smaller and then greater challenges, and upon reflection could not deny that I was guided through an experience that revealed the skills I needed to cultivate, i.e. awareness where I once failed to see my needs, patience when I chased what was not for me, and gratitude when I needed to be reminded of what I had and was able to accomplish.
While I cannot foresee my next challenge, or yours, I can offer this one piece of advise... do not simply go through life, grow through it!
Simply put, I do not know who needs to hear this but this moment is happening for you, and not to you.
